Mayor Rogero shares Knoxville fun facts on city's birthday

KNOXVILLE - Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero shared a series of "fun facts" about Knoxville on social media Monday to mark the city's 225th birthday.

City staff compiled a list of random facts about Knoxville's history and people that Rogero shared throughout the day. Some of the facts were about well-known people and stories, while others were pretty surprising.

The city of Knoxville was founded on Oct. 3, 1791. The city's first newspaper, The Knoxville Gazette, began publishing that same year.

The Scruffy City has had a colorful past.

And has been home to some great people.

Thanks for the fun look at the first 225 years, Mayor Rogero. Here's to 225 more!
