McMinn official pleads guilty to stealing gas from county

An East Tennessee elected official admits he used county money to buy gas for his personal vehicle.

Jerry Anderson will spend one year under supervised probation.

The McMinn County property assessor pleaded guilty to one count of official misconduct. Two misdemeanor counts of theft were dismissed on Monday.

Authorities say he used the "county highway department's" gas card at least twice to fill up for personal use.

McMinn County's property assessor is facing charges of using county money to fill up his personal vehicle.

A grand jury indicted Jerry Anderson on two counts of theft and one count of official misconduct Tuesday. He was booked in the McMinn County Justice Center later that afternoon.

Authorities say Anderson used the highway department's gas to fill up his personal vehicle at least twice. He was not using his vehicle for county business at the time.
