UPDATE: Motorcycle passenger in Knox County crash in critical condition

A Strawberry Plains woman is in critical condition after a crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck Thursday morning in East Knox County.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office initially said the motorcycle passenger, 43-year-old Misty Hopson, of Strawberry Plains, died in the crash. KCSO has corrected that information to say she is still alive, but is in critical condition.

According to the initial investigation, a 2003 Yamaha was going westbound on Andrew Johnson Highway, approaching Pleasant Hill Road, when it was hit by a Ford F150 around 8:12 a.m.

The pickup driver, 51-year-old Robin Mitchell of Knoxville, told authorities she was trying to cross Andrew Johnson Highway and never saw the motorcycle.

The motorcycle driver, 60-year-old Charles Edmonds of Etowah, and his passenger, Hopson, were taken to UT Medical Center.

Edmonds and Hopson were both wearing DOT-approved helmets.

Investigators said they don't believe drugs or alcohol were a factor.
