New movement on Eugenia Williams house

There has been new movement on the historic and vacant Eugenia Williams house. A University of Tennessee committee has submitted a recommendation to find someone who will rent it long term.

UT took ownership of the West Knoxville home off Lyons View Pike in 1998 when Eugenia Williams donated it.

Over the past couple months, a task force has met to discuss the house's future. They submitted a plan to UT President Joe DiPietro who is considering what to do next.

University officials say they don't have enough resources to maintain it, so they're looking for someone who will lease it for at least 50 years. They hope the leaser will improve or restore the house and possibly make some additions.

Officials say President DiPietro will make a decision by mid-June.
