New post office found in Kentucky vapor shop

The US Postal Service is going through several changes, one of them being the introduction of smaller post offices to replace full service locations. 6-5-14

(WBIR-Fourmile, KY) Bell County's newest post office is not in your traditional setting.

"You can come here and get all your first class postage stamps, or you can come here to drop off priority packages," Adron Wilson said, who is running the new post office in Fourmile. It sits inside a small, brown shack off Highway 25E.

"11.5 feet wide by 16 feet long," he said. However, that's not why it's so unusual.

"A U.S. Government vehicle pulls in and says 'you're not very far from the post office, why don't you become a village post office. You're in a perfect location,'" Wilson recalled.

That location is his vapor shop, called The Vapor Shack.

"I started the vapor shop about a year ago and the hobby kind of grew from 10 kits and 10 bottles of juice," he said.

He said having the unusual combination of stamps and postage with e-cigarettes and flavors has received a lot of attention by passersby.

"I went from having 20-30 customers to last month having 215 customers on the computer," he said.

A village post office offers PO Boxes, forever stamps, pre-paid Priority Mail Flat Rate envelopes and a mail collection box, but they vary from location to location. There are currently more than 600 VPOs across the country.

He said the future looks promising, for a business that just celebrated its first anniversary.

"We want people to come in and see what we have to offer. Maybe for our two-year anniversary, we can expand our building," he said.
