New wildfire in Cocke County forces evacuations

COCKE COUNTY, TENN. - Fire crews are actively working to fight a new fire in Cocke County Saturday.

 

A reporter for WBIR is on the scene. She said aircraft are being used to fight the fire. 

Two mandatory home evacuations have been enforced. One woman said firefighters told her she had 40 minutes to evacuate. 

The new fire developed in the past 24 hours near Neddy Mountain Rd. in Cocke County. According to the forestry division of the Tennessee Agriculture Department, the fire now covers approximately 150 acres, spreading from just 20 acres at noon. The cause and amount of containment is unknown at this time.
