Nashville-based nonprofit Soles4Souls is seeking financialdonations so it can ship more than 200,000 pairs of shoes to the Philippines and other areas ravaged by Typhoon Haiyan, the organization said Sunday.
Soles4Souls has received 213,000 pairs of new Bobs shoes from Skechers USA and is redirecting them to the affected areas, spokesman Steven Silvers said. Silvers said other shoe companies also plan to donate to the cause, but he declined to identify them until details are finalized.
He said the nonprofit needs money to help defray the costs of transporting the shoes and other materials, including clothes and diapers. More details are expected Monday.
"We're humbled by all the support that we are getting, and we're going to need a lot of it," Silvers said.
