A big addition to Belle Morris Elementary School should ease overcrowding issues in the upcoming school year.
The school held a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday morning to show off the new two-story, 17,000 square-foot addition. Belle Morris now has eight new classrooms, plus a new art room for the school year. Belle Morris also added geo-thermal HV air-conditioning.
"It means a whole lot to actually have them be in their own spaces rather than crammed in classes with teachers," said first-grade teacher, Angela Patrick. "This year, I've got this brand new room, and I'm really excited to begin a new year, a new room, a smaller class size, so I'm just excited to begin the school year."
School officials said Belle Morris has had overcrowding problems, with about 30 kids crammed into some classrooms. School officials said with the addition, they'll only have about 16 kids per classroom.
Knox County goes back to school Monday.
