A car explosion at a recycling center sparked a fire Wednesday afternoon in North Knox County.
It happened around 4 p.m. at a lot next to Right Way Recycling's building in Halls.
A worker told firefighters a junk car the company had just purchased for scrap exploded for no apparent reason. No one was working on the car at the time. The flames caught a nearby pile of recycled car and appliance parts on fire.
Rural/Metro had five engines and 20 firefighters working the fire.
No one was injured.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials say it does not appear to be suspicious or malicious.
