(WBIR) This weekend, Tennessee is hoping to break a nine-year losing streak against Florida.
To put that into perspective, the last time the Vols beat the Gators the head coaches were Phil Fulmer and Ron Zook, George W. Bush was campaigning for a second term in office, and no one had heard of YouTube or the iPhone.
Tennessee's last win against Florida was September 18, 2004 on a 50-yard field goal with seven seconds remaining.
2004 is also the same year many of the players on the Farragut Youth Football Ten Year Old team were born.
Thursday night, the Admirals played against the Bearden Bulldogs at Tommy Schumpert Park.
10News asked some of the players if they remembered the last time the Volunteers beat Florida; Tommy Winton, 11, responded by saying, "Not really."
"I remember it quite well," said Eric Todd, head coach for the Admirals. "Eric Ainge was actually the last UT quarterback to defeat the Gators."
Ainge is now offensive coordinator for the Admirals.
"I guess I was the quarterback playing that game but it's definitely a team game," he said. "They (the players) pull up stats from back in the day and they're like, 'Hey, so it looks like back in 2000-whatever you got beat by...' So they're 10. They're right at that perfect age where they learn how to trash talk their elders."
It's personal for Head Coach Todd, a UT alum.
"My son was born in December of 2003 and he's never seen my beloved Vols beat the Gators but he will now," Todd said.
Ainge also believes UT can defeat the Gators on Saturday saying, "Are we as talented? Probably not quite. All of our players are super young but we won't give up."
Saturday's game marks the 44th meeting between Tennessee and Florida. This is the latest meeting in the season between the two since 2001.
