NAACP kicks-off state convention

(WBIR - Oak Ridge) The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People kicked off its 67th annual state convention on Thursday in Oak Ridge.

Throughout the weekend, chapters from across Tennessee will come together to hear national speakers discuss topics including education, criminal justice, legislative updates and health care.

Gloria Sweet, president of the NAACP state conference said she hopes by hosting the convention in Oak Ridge they can increase enthusiasm in an area where there isn't an official chapter.

Sweet said the NAACP continues to be extremely important because it's willing to speak up for people of all colors, all races and all genders.
