(WBIR-Oak Ridge) The Oak Ridge Board of Education will gather for a special called meeting Monday at 5:30 pm to discuss the transfer of $250,000 from the city to the schools.
The Oak Ridge City Council voted last week to transfer the money to avoid a potential loss of millions of dollars in state funding and an October 1 school shutdown.
Those issues came about after the city decided to directly fund school-related projects, instead of allocating money to the schools. This allocation of funds made it appear to the state that the city didn't fulfill its "maintenance of effort," which requires funding for districts to be consistent year-to-year.
We'll update you on the board's decision tonight on the Nightbeat at 11 pm.
