Suspect surrenders to Oak Ridge PD after an hour of negotiations

(WBIR) Two people are facing charges after they holed themselves up in an Oak Ridge apartment Monday night.

At about 7:40 p.m., Oak Ridge police responded to a disturbance among several people in the parking lot of an apartment building at 105 Wakefield Road. During the argument, witnesses told police that Abacuc Vazquez, 52, shot one round from a pistol before going into an apartment. Witnesses also said Vazquez had a second firearm with him inside the apartment, according to an Oak Ridge Police Department press release.

When police arrived, they established a perimeter around the apartment building and brought in a negotiator to talk with the suspect. About an hour later, Vazquez surrendered to officers. Inside the apartment, police found two semiautomatic pistols and arrested a second person, 28-year-old Megan Loy.

Officials charged Vazquez with six counts of aggravated assault and one count of reckless endangerment. Police charged Loy with tampering evidence.
