Young Anderson Co. Commissioner is running for mayor

Anderson County Mayor Terry Frank will face a challenger in this year's primary election.

25-year-old County Commissioner Zach Bates announced Tuesday that he will run against Frank in the May Republican primary.

He is serving his first term representing district four.

Bates says he has experience in working with people and he wants to work with commissioners and other leaders to improve business relationships and find ways to save money.

He acknowledged his young age may be a draw back to some voters.

"I've tried to surround myself with people who are experienced business people, government leaders, friends of mine that have done a lot of good things and are continually working on things. And I just try to learn everywhere I go. I think I can't have all the answers all the time, but I can try my hardest to find answers," said Bates.

Bates and his wife, Whitney, live in Clinton. Bates is the oldest of 19 children.

The Bates family is friends with the famous Duggar family, and they've appeared on the Duggar's show "19 Kids and Counting" several times.
