Officer involved in overnight accident

KNOXVILLE - A Knoxville police officer was sent to the hospital after a collision with a tractor trailer late Sunday night.

Just after 11 p.m. a KPD officer was involved in a motor vehicle accident that resulted in minor injuries. A marked police cruiser and a tractor trailer were both traveling westbound on Rutledge Pike at Loves Creek Road when the tractor trailer attempted to change lanes.

The driver of that vehicle did not see the police cruiser in the lane next to him, causing his vehicle to strike the cruiser.

The officer was transported to UT Medical Center, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

The driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured. His vehicle sustained minor damage and was driven from the scene.

The driver of the tractor trailer was cited for careless driving.

Names of those involved in the accident have not been released.
