Park officials want firewood restrictions in Smokies

National park officials want to enact firewood restrictions to protect the Great Smoky Mountains from tree-killing bugs.

Insects like the emerald ash borer can be transported through firewood from infested areas. The park wants to change regulations to only allow heat-treated wood to be brought into the park for campground fires.

Those changes wouldn't go into effect until 2015. but park officials want visitors to start making the switch now.
