Public meeting to search for Knox Co. Schools superintendent

KNOXVILLE - Knox County Board of Education members wants to hear from parents and community leaders before narrowing their search for a permanent school superintendent.

Jim McIntyre, who held the job for eight years, resigned in January after he said the political environment became increasingly dysfunctional.

In June, the school board tapped Buzz Thomas, president of the Great Schools Partnership, to serve as interim superintendent.

Starting Thursday evening, Knox County Schools will hold two public meetings to get input from parents and the community on characteristics and qualifications for the next superintendent.

The first meeting is Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the Central High School's auditorium.

The next meeting is Tuesday, Sept. 20 at the Bearden Middle School's auditorium.

Parents can also fill out a forum online or email superintendentsearch@knoxschools.org their recommendations.
