Queen of England congratulates Knoxville couple

A Knoxville couple received quite the surprise Thursday when they went to get their mail.

Pam and Gene Rickles met in 1952 when the Air Force sent Gene to England. The two were married 14 months later. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on February 6th.

Thursday's mail brought a surprise the Rickles will never forget-- a letter from Buckingham Palace!

"I got this letter and and it was-- the Queen of England had signed this little letter for us congratulating us on 60 years," said Gene.

"He stayed out there because he was signing the mail and I had no idea what was going on. And when he came in he says 'we got a letter from Buckingham Palace.' I said 'what?'" Pam added.

Queen Elizabeth II sent her best wishes to congratulate the couple on their diamond anniversary.

The Rickles said they were in England for Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee, celebrating her 60th year on the throne, so it's fitting she sent her best wishes to them.
