SEVIER COUNTY - State tourism officials are hoping a unique campaign will draw visitors from the Atlanta-area to Sevier County.
For the “It’s a Great Day in the Smokies” series, a camera crew will follow Atlanta-based celebrity journalist and blogger Anna Liesemeyer, her husband Gabe and their five small children, on their vacation to several top East Tennessee tourist stops.
Each day, the crew will a 60-second television commercial that will air each evening on Atlanta television station WSB. You can also see them below or on the Tennessee Vacation Facebook page.
They spent Monday at Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies, and visited Dollywood on Tuesday. The family will check out Sevierville on Wednesday and head to the Smoky Mountains on Thursday.
"We're really excited. The state came in and wanted to help with perception after the wildfires, letting folks know that Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville and the county, that we are open for business and to let our visitors know that what they say before is what they are going to see today,: said Sue Carr, Pigeon Forge Dept. of Tourism.
Atlanta is East Tennessee's largest feeder market, and tourism officials hope it will help jump-start the spring and summer travel season for Sevier County.
