Ripken Sports Complex coming to Pigeon Forge

Pigeon Forge took steps to increase tourism in the area when the city commission met to discuss and pass this fiscal year's budget.

Part of the budget included funding a 10-year contract with The Ripken Experience to manage a new sports complex. The Ripken Sports Complex will have six fields with artificial turf and will open Pigeon Forge up to youth sports.

Plus, the city reached a branding agreement that will allow them to use Cal Ripken Jr.'s likeness in advertisements.

Mayor David Wear says this will open Pigeon Forge up to a whole new demographic.

"We do a really good job with our city park bringing fast pitch pitch softball and some little league tournaments in, but I think this takes us to a new level," he said.

The Ripken Experience also has baseball complexes in Maryland and South Carolina.
