HARRIMAN, TENN. - Knoxville's 91.9 FM WUOT and TruckBeat, a local health story-telling organization, are teaming up Thursday to host a special gathering to discuss the opioid epidemic.
The event is called Roane is Better Together! and will be hosted 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Harriman. The night will include stories of addiction and recovery as well as information about how Roane County and other communities in the region are working to find innovative solutions to the opioid epidemic in Tennessee.
More than 115 people are believed to have died this year from drug overdoses, likely opiate overdoses, according to figures prepared by the Knox County District Attorney General's Office.
Guests will hear and see stories produced by TruckBeat. WUOT's news director Matt Shafer Powell will also moderate a discussion with health experts, lawmakers and other guests on the subject.
