(WBIR - Pioneer, TN) Chambers American Products is an ambiguous name for a mowing company, but in the industry, it's considered one of the biggest.
That statement may be surprising to some, because of its location, in Pioneer, in Scott County.
"I really like living out here," said Roger Chambers, the company's owner. "My idea about putting this industry here is once you build it to another area, you'd have more services. I said why not build it here and let the area grow into it."
It's sold more than 600 roadside mower attachments -- the ones drivers would normally find on the sides of highways and medians.
"We're (selling) in half the states and Puerto Rico," Chambers added, selling mostly to cities and municipalities.
Scott County, month after month, has had Tennessee's highest employment rankings -- due to several businesses leaving the area.
However, Chambers said despite that economic climate and the lack of a nearby interstate, Scott County is a perfect fit for them.
In fact, this niche market is one of the few in the Eastern U.S., only adding to its success.
"Everything lined up, if you work at it and already been in business long enough to know that if you have a good product and really push it to develop well, you're going to be successful," he said.
Chambers said it's had success both in mowers and in mower parts. The owner said 40-percent of his profits come from part sales.
