Campbell County family found dead in KY creek

(WBIR) Three members of a Campbell County family were found dead Saturday in Kentucky after a flash flood swept their car into a creek.

Whitley County Sheriff's Department identified the victims from Jacksboro as Shannon Kier, 39, his wife Susan Kier, 29, and their 2-year-old son Lee.

The couple and their son traveled to Whitley County to help a relative move, but when they never arrived, family members reported them missing at about 8:30 p.m. Friday. The next day, a family member found the victims' vehicle partially submerged in a creek.

Authorities said they believe the Kiers drowned after high waters swept their car off the road, flipped it over, and carried the vehicle to a creek about two and a half football fields away. The coroner told 10News at one point he believes the water was rushing five feet above the road.

"This was a tragic incident," said Sheriff Colan Harrell posted on the Whitley County Sheriff's Department Facebook page. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family."

The Kentucky medical examiner will soon perform autopsies on the three bodies to determine the exact cause of death.
