Ohio man drowns while fishing at Cove Lake State Park

(WBIR-Caryville) The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency says an Ohio man drowned at Cove Lake State Park in Campbell County Friday morning.

According to a press release from TWRA, James Hamblin, 50, of Hamilton, Ohio, and his friend, Bill Roddy from LaFollette, rented a small jon-boat to go fishing.

Around 9:00 am, investigators say Hamblin stood up in the boat, causing both men to fall into the water. Roddy was able to swim back to the boat, but Hamblin wasn't able to make it and went under.

Roddy paddled the boat to the road, where he was able to flag down a motorist who called for help.

A diver from the LaFollette Rescue Squad recovered Hamblin's body about an hour later.

There were life jackets on the boat, but investigors say neither man was wearing one.
