Sen. Corker visits with firefighters in Chattanooga

The former Chattanooga mayor talked to crews about the challenges they are facing

CHATTANOOGA - Senator Bob Corker got a first hand look of the wildfire damage in Chattanooga on Monday.

The former Chattanooga mayor talked with fire crews about the challenge they're facing, and got an update from state forestry officials.

"I just wanted to more fully understand what was taking place here and to get a good sense of where we are and the status and I'm glad, I'm glad that it's almost over," said Sen. Corker.\

Corker said it looks like the firefighters he visited may make it home by Thanksgiving.

Officials said dozens of wildfires have burned an estimated 190 square miles across the Southeast.
In Tennessee, the smoke has been especially dense in such places as Knoxville and Chattanooga.
