Fundraiser held for hospitalized Sevierville Police Officer

(WBIR - Sevierville) A Sevierville Police Officer hospitalized in North Carolina since July got some extra support tonight, hundreds of miles away, back home here in East Tennessee.

Friends, family and community members held a spaghetti fundraiser Saturday night for Officer Ben Headrick.

Officer Headrick suddenly became ill while attending a wedding in July and has been hospitalized ever since. Money raised will help support him and his family.

There was also some good news shared at the fundraiser. Officer Headrick's doctors said he is now stable enough to be brought to a rehab center here in East Tennessee.

For his friends and fellow police officers, his return to Tennessee can't come soon enough.

"Not a single day have I gone to lunch and someone hasn't wanted to know how Ben's doing, hey we're thinking about Ben, one day I went to Subway and Subway wouldn't let me pay for my lunch, they just put the money I would've paid into the collection they were keeping for Ben," Captain Matthew Ayers said.
