Ober Gatlinburg enjoying natural snow

Winter sports enthusiasts took advantage of the snow in Gatlinburg.

It started snowing at Ober Gatlinburg on Thursday around 3 p.m.

Ober Gatlinburg Winter Sports Director John Cossaboom said before this round of snow, the resort had only accumulated about two inches all season.

"When it first started to snow there was a cheer that rose up from all of the people who are here because they were happy they were finally going to get a chance to see real snow," Cossaboom said.

Many of the visitors this week came from parts of Florida.

"We were pretty fortunate to come down here to see the snow because this is my first time seeing snow and also for my dad," said Madison Norris of Clearwater, Fla.

Amy Teate also traveled to Gatlinburg from Florida.

It was the first time her kids saw the snow, as well.

"We don't know when we'll be back out here again. It's one of those things you save up money for and come out and do what you can do and have fun," Teate said.

Chad Morris of Jefferson County is a regular at Ober Gatlinburg.

"It's totally different. It's a little harder to ride but it's more fun. The snow's better to ride in. It's just better to be out here," Morris said.

According to Cossaboom, weather conditions are favorable for snow making.

"We plan more than likely to be making snow every night probably for the next seven to 10 days," Cossaboom said.

He added the best temperatures for snow making fall between 20 degrees to 28 degrees.
