(WBIR - Seymour) Leadership in the town of Seymour said it will take a "major step" toward its goal of becoming an incorporated municipality this week.
There will be a meeting at the Seymour Branch Library at 7 P.M Thursday January 9th to discuss the plan, including an informational seminar. Seymour leadership said in a statement Wednesday incorporation will help solve many of the community's unresolved issues.
Because the town is not incorporated, there isn't a single self-governing body to help make decisions. Sevier County Commissioner Bill Oakes said he expects there could be several hundred people who could attend the meeting. If that happens, the meeting will be moved to Seymour High School.
The U.S Census of 2010 reported the community has nearly 11,000 residents, which would make it the 2nd-largest city in Sevier County.
