Update Thursday noon:
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park announced it plans to keep several facilities closed for the remainder of Thursday.
The Sugarlands Visitor Center, Oconaluftee Visitor Center, and Park Headquarters closed Wednesday afternoon and will remain closed for Thursday, due to inclement weather.
All roads in the park are closed except: Newfound Gap Road from Gatlinburg to Sugarlands Visitor Center, the Spur between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, and Newfound Gap Road from Cherokee to Smokemont Campground.
Crews worked throughout the night to keep the Spur open for travel. A Park spokesperson said the only incident they've seen was a minor motor vehicle accident just after midnight. No one was hurt in that accident.
The park also saw a wide range of snow totals from this storm, according to its spokesperson:
- Park headquarters: 5 inches
- Cades Cove: 6.5 inches
- Mt. LeConte: 10 inches
- Newfound Gap: 16 inches
Snow is already falling in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and officials are closing some of the facilities.
The Sugarlands Visitor Center, Oconaluftee Visitor Center, and Park Headquarters closed Wednesday afternoon, February 12, due to inclement weather. They may delay opening Thursday morning.
Many roads, including Newfound Gap Road, Cades Cove Loop, and the Gatlinburg Bypass, Laurel Creek Road, Little River Road (from Sugarlands Visitors Center to the Townsend Wye), and Foothills Parkway West & East are closed due to icy conditions.
