(WBIR-Wears Valley) 10News is learning more about the man accused of killing his girlfriend with a 3-foot sword in Florida, and was later found in Sevier County.

James Brian Quilliams, 40, waived extradition Friday morning in Sevier County.

He's accused of slashing and stabbing his girlfriend multiple times with a sword at a home they shared near Tampa. Quilliams' ex-wife told authorities he was hiding out in or near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, leading to a massive manhunt for the suspect earlier this week.

However, Quilliams has been in East Tennessee for some time, according to Wears Valley resident Wendy Fox.

"First of all, everyone looks out for everybody," Fox said. "Second of all, something like this where a guy is accused of such bad things and he lives here -- people are going to talk."

She said Quilliams went by his middle name, Brian, did not wear glasses, and usually bought cigarettes and gasoline at the Wears Valley Exxon -- almost on a consistent basis.

"Every time I've ever seen him, he's been super, super nice and joked around. You would never think of anything like this," she added.

We've also learned the accused murderer worked for several years as a blood collector at Medic in Knoxville. According to a spokesperson, he worked there until May 2013.

Quilliams will now face the legal system back in Florida, with plenty of people here wondering what will happen with the person they thought they knew.

"If in fact he did this -- he hid it pretty well," Fox said.
