Soldier dad drives all night, surprises kids at school

This marked a day, and a surprise, two elementary school students won't soon forget.

U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Tally Holt surprised his daughter Mackenna and son Tallen at school. The two are in second grade and kindergarten at Bluegrass Elementary School in West Knox County.

The proud dad drove all night from Fort Hood, Texas, to surprise them.

This is the first time he's seen his kids in almost a year, since he was deployed to Afghanistan.

"You know, we go on missions, we ran gun trucks, so you know, you had to think of your family. You know, just keep them in the back of your mind. You know, gotta get back to them," said Holt.

The kids were, of course, thrilled to see their dad, and greeted him with the words he'd been waiting to here.

"Love you," they said. "I love you, too," said Holt.

This was Sgt. Holt's third deployment, and his first to Afghanistan. He was deployed twice to Iraq.
