Man rescued from tree has died

Update: Rural/Metro Fire Chief Rick Harrell tells 10News that the man who had to be rescued from a tree on Monday has died. Harrell says the man was pronounced dead after reaching the hospital.

The man's name has not been released.

(WBIR) First responders rescued a man trapped 25 feet up in a tree Monday in south Knoxville.

Rural Metro firefighters, the vertical rescue team, and Knoxville Volunteer Rescue Squad responded to the scene on Tomassee Drive shortly before 10:15 a.m. About an hour and a half later, crews rescued the man and sent him to the hospital in an ambulance.

Rural Metro Fire Chief Rick Herrell said the worker was chopping limbs from a tree, when one fell and possibly struck him. The accident initially knocked the man unconscious, but Herrell said the victim is now conscious. Authorities have not identified the victim at this time.
