In less than one week, a busy stretch of Kingston Pike in Bearden will be reduced to one lane in each direction for a bridge replacement project.
The lane closures are expected to last around the clock for a year.
The closure will affect a bridge on Kingston Pike over the Norfolk Southern Railroad at Forrest Park Boulevard. The current bridge was built in 1948, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
TDOT said the lane reductions will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 11th, if weather permits. Crews would then have until October 31, 2010 to finish the project.
The cost of the project is $2.9 million. It will include four travel lanes, a center turn lane and sidewalks, TDOT said in a news release Monday.
