The second tank for Y-12's potable water system is now in place.

Crews lifted the 215-ton tank on October 19, and as expected, it took all day.

Several items still remain to be completed, however. Construction on the west water tank, as well as mechanical and electrical work for the entire system, hasn't been finished. The east tower also needs to be repainted because of rust streaks. Crews are working to prevent similar rusting on the west tank. The retaining wall and paving around the towers need to be completed as well.

The main project currently underway on the east tower is installing the pump room. The west tower will be a backup for the primary east tower, which contains the pump room for both.

Testing is scheduled for December and January. It must be completed by February when the tanks are filled.

Operations are set to begin toward the end of March 2010.
