The first freezing weather of autumn is expected over a broad swath of western and central Tennessee.

The National Weather Service issued freeze warnings for a number of counties early Tuesday.

The warned area extends from Union City eastward to Hartsville and from the Kentucky border southward to Mississippi and Alabama.

Forecasters said Canadian high pressure moving into Tennessee was expected to drop Tuesday morning lows to near freezing.

A freeze would kill sensitive vegetation and forecasters caution that potted plants should be brought indoors.
