Some of us will do just about anything to avoid the homeless.

They can make us feel uncomfortable by their sheer presence, and the pain in their eyes can be too much to bear.

As a result, some simply ignore them and hope they disappear.

Knox Area Rescue Ministries' director of ministries does not.

Cynthia Russell can be found right in the middle of those in need, offering a pray, a hug or just a hello.

"I will chase somebody down the street if I have to.  It's all about helping someone," said Russell.

Executive director Burt Rosen appreciates Cynthia's compassion, but also knows she demands respect.

"People know when they come in here, Cynthia is going to show them love.  But they also know you can't get anything past her."

Over the years, Cynthia has helped hundreds through the valley and back to the mountaintop.

She's truly a "Straight from the Heart Hero."
