A 60-year-old man has been pronounced dead after an apparent boating accident near the Highway 25E bridge along the Hamblen/Grainger County line on Cherokee Lake.

Shortly before 11 a.m. on Wednesday, rescue crews from Grainger and Hamblen counties responded to the scene and recovered the man's body shortly afterward. He was found dead on the scene.

At this point, investigators believe he was the only occupant of the boat, and there are no signs the boat struck another vessel or any other object.

The Hamblen County Sheriff's Office, Grainger County Sheriff's Office, Grainger County EMS, Grainger County Rescue Squad, Hamblen County Rescue Squad, Bean Station Police Department, and Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency all responded.

TWRA is still investigating the cause of the accident and the official cause of death.

The victim has not been identified by name.
