Volkswagen's deadline to accept applications online for jobs at its new assembly plant in Chattanooga is one minute before midnight Sunday. Hiring is to start early next year. The 1,200 production jobs involve assembly as well as operating tools and equipment. Starting pay is $14.50 per hour, increasing to $19.50 per hour over three years, in addition to health insurance and other benefits. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED and be legal to work in the U.S. VW is hiring 2,000 employees at the $1 billion plant to build a new mid-sized sedan starting in 2011. Applications are available online at the VW Chattanooga job website, but career centers helping file applications online won't be open Saturday or Sunday.
