If you believed the world would end in 2000--watch out!
A new movie premiered Friday in East Tennessee that paints 2012 as the end of the world.
The film, '2012', centers around the Mayan Calendar which runs out on December 21, 2012. Some believe that date marks the world's end.
"Pretty intense movie," said James Tiegs, after watching '2012' at the Regal Pinnacle Stadium 18 in West Knoxville. "I don't think it will happen."
"It was the best told world ending story ever," Nichole McIntosh said as she left the theater. "Do I believe it? Yeah. that could happen!"
Scientists believe the Mayan Calendar 2012 theory doesn't line up.
Tom Webber, director of the Heritage Planetarium in Blount County, said the Mayan calendar will never end. Instead, the calendar runs in cycles.
Webber said the planetary alignment on December 21, 2012 does not cause concern.
"What those who would support this would say is during the alignment a cosmic force from the galaxy is going to strike earth. This alignment has happened many times in the past and we're still here," Webber added.
The Heritage Planetarium has received several calls a week about the 2012 theory.
