Heart defect determined as cause of football player's death

Andrew "Jake" Logue fell to the ground during Sullivan South's season opener at West High School. The 18-year-old defensive lineman died that night.

Since that Friday night in August, his cause of death has not been publicly known; emergency responders said he'd gone into cardiac arrest on the field.

Now, Jake Logue's cause of death has been confirmed as natural causes, a heart problem. The Knox County Medical Examiner has released the cause of death as a problem with the bicuspid aortic valve.

Logue's death stunned the community. The remainder of the game was canceled. Seniors at West set up an impromptu memorial under one of the goal posts on the field at West.

A memorial service in Kingsport drew 1,400 people.
