The Tennessee Volunteers were playing their fourth game in a week against a team picked to win its conference. The combination made for a hard fought 86-69 win for UT.
Former Bearden star Tony White, Jr., received a warm ovation when he was introduced before the game. White's father, former Vol Tony White, Sr., was in attendance as his son scored 12 points and handed out six assists.
The Vols never trailed, but they never had a comfortable lead, either. Tennessee never led more than 13 points until the closing minutes of the game.
Scotty Hopson scored 17 of his game high 21 points in the first half, and Tyler Smith added 18 points, while Wayne Chism and Brian Williams both added 11.
The Vols run their record to 5-1. They play at home again Wednesday against East Tennessee.
