ESPN.com is reporting that Florida State coach Bobby Bowden will announce his retirement on Tuesday. Bowden met with FSU President TK Wetherell today to discuss his future.
The report said Bowden was given two choices: return for one season as an ambassador to the program with little input into the day to day operations, or retire.
The 80 year old Bowden led Florida State to national championships in 1993 and 1999. His 388 career wins trail only Joe Paterno as college football's winningest coach.
ESPN.com also reports that offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher has agreed to contract terms to replace Bowden. He was designated Bowden's successor in 2007.
