Brent Leeland Vinson's booking shot in Alabama
A former Tennessee football player is facing charges in connection to a deadly shooting at a South Knoxville apartment complex last year.
U.S. Marshals arrested Brent Vinson Tuesday near Florence, Alabama on a warrant from Knox County. Wednesday evening, Vinson was being held in the Lauderdale County, Alabama jail, awaiting extradition to Tennessee.
Vinson had intially been listed as a witness to a shooting on May 19, 2009 at The Woodlands apartment complex in Knoxville. Charles Corn was shot several times and died several days later.
Police have not charged anyone with the murder, and multiple sources tell 10 News Vinson is not charged with the murder either. Instead, he faces related charges of evidence tampering and being an accessory after the fact.
Vinson played defensive back for the Vols from 2007 to 2009. He left the school late in the 2009 season, after a dispute with Coach Lane Kiffin over playing time.
The University of North Alabama had offered Vinson a scholarship for next season.
The school says today he had not signed and returned the scholarship papers and that "he is not a part of our program."
