A worker injured in an explosion while working on a pipe at the CEMEX plant has died of his injuries.
Police said Franklin Dewayne Lasley, 35, was using a welding torch on a steel pipe when something caused the pipe to violently shred into multiple pieces.
Lasley was taken to UT Medical Center but died of his injuries there.
Police said the incident is still under investigation. The report of the explosion came in around 8:30 Friday morning.

A worker at the CEMEX plant on Cemenlant Rd. was "significantly" injured in what authorities described as a small explosion while cutting steel with a gas tool Friday morning.
The worker was transported to a local hospital.
The incident happened around 8:20 am.
KFD, Rural Metro and Knoxville Police Department responded to the call.
KPD and the company are investigating the cause.
