King College is opening a satellite campus in West Knox County.
King will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new instructional site located at The Village at Hardin Valley at 10950 Spring Bluff Way on August 17, at 10 a.m.
According to a press release from the college, King will offer baccalaureate and master's level programs in Knoxville specifically designed with the adult learner in mind through the College's Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS) program, as well as numerous courses for students who wish to transition from an associate degree to a bachelor's degree in as little as two years.
"We are pleased to be able to offer degree programs in the Knoxville area," said Mona Salyer, director of recruitment for Graduate & Professional Studies. "This will provide increased educational opportunities for Knoxville residents, while giving them another choice when seeking a quality accredited program when returning to school. The degree options available will help to assuage the nursing shortage and further serve to strengthen area workforce development."
GPS students will be able to complete their degree in as little as 16 months, one night per week. King will offer the following programs in Knoxville beginning fall 2010:
• Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)
The mission of the King College BBA program is to prepare students for a career by endowing excellent business, communication and critical thinking skills that lead to a lifetime of service, stewardship, and success. Students can choose from specializations in marketing, management, or finance.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing for Registered Nurses (RN-BSN)
In the King College RN-BSN program, students are empowered to become leaders in the healthcare industry. Classes incorporate relevant, contemporary technology to promote effective health and function of clients, employers, communities, self, and the profession. The program is designed to meet the needs of Registered Nurses previously prepared at the ADN or diploma level.
• Master of Business Administration (MBA)
The primary focus of the MBA program is to prepare students to be effective strategic leaders and managers. The goal is to assist students in directly integrating management research, theoretical constructs, skills abilities, and ethical practices within their own contemporary-professional situation while managing for quality results. The program offers opportunities to select a specialization in management, marketing, finance, or healthcare administration.
With articulation agreements already in place with area community colleges, the transition to complete a degree with King is seamless for students.
"Our GPS program is tailored to reduce the challenges facing the adult learner. Time and access is often a barrier for students to finish their degrees," stated Micah Crews, associate vice president of enrollment management. "By offering classes in convenient locations, one night per week, the working adult is able to obtain their degree in as little as 16 months and open the door for professional advancement.
"The addition of an instructional site in Knoxville only made sense," said Crews. "We have successfully recruited in the Knoxville area for a number of years. There has been increasing interest in East Tennessee for quality, accredited degree programs for the working adult. As a result, during the past year King added new locations in both Morristown and Sevierville, and now Knoxville."
Founded in Bristol in 1867, King College recently celebrated its 10th consecutive year of record enrollment. With the increasing call for degree options oriented toward the working adult, King has expanded its educational offerings to include more than 12 instructional locations throughout Southwest Virginia and East Tennessee. The addition of the Knoxville location marks King's 13th location.
