Parrottsville now has a police chief and municipal judge.  More than 260 people live in the Cocke County town, according to the 2010 census.

Before now, Parrottsville Mayor Mary Keller said municipal traffic and code violations could not be enforced.

"Parrottsville established their codes in 1949.  We have 8, 10 or maybe 15 pages of municipal codes with no way of enforcing them.  We can't take them into Newport because that is a different municipality," Keller said.

The town's first municipal court hearing was held Tuesday morning.  Three traffic tickets were on the docket.

The town hired its first police chief less than a year ago.

Hearing dates will be limited for now.  Currently, court is held the first Tuesday each month in Parrottsville's new town hall.
