Church and community leaders gathered in Anderson County Thursday to take part in the National Day of Prayer.

Local pastors led the assembly in prayer for county officials, the country, school leaders, the military and their families.

Organizers say it's great to see everyone set aside their differences and come together for a united purpose.

"We enjoy a lot of pastors and clergy in the area from different faiths, different religions, different denominations. To come together on this day in unity to pray for our country, pray for our leaders, our educators, our homes, our families. And it's needed today," said Kris Holzmeyer, Associate Pastor at Second Baptist Church in Clinton.

Churches in the Knoxville area will gather in the Bijou Theatre at 6:30 pm to mark the National Day of Prayer.
