A nursing home that had to close earlier this year is now facing lawsuits from the families of former patients.

Colonial Hills Nursing Center had to close after losing its Medicare and Medicaid contract as a result of six violations with the Tennessee Department of Health.

Now the nursing center is facing lawsuits from the families of some former patients.

The family of Bettye Martin filed a wrongful death lawsuit in May that alleges she suffered from injuries, neglect and poor hygiene which led to her death.

The family of Zelma Lou Gibson filed a lawsuit in January which claims medical negligence, which resulted in injuries that led to diminished physical and mental capabilities.

Life Care Centers of America, which runs the nursing home, gave 10News the following statement regarding the lawsuit:

"At Life Care Centers of America, residents are our highest priority. We strive to provide a homelike atmosphere in each Life Care center.

Unfortunately, there are ongoing lawsuits surrounding concerns from former residents of Colonial Hills Nursing Center. We are evaluating the lawsuits individually to address each of them appropriately. Due to the nature of the lawsuits and protected health information, we cannot provide specific details but do intend to vigorously defend the care given."
Colonial Hills plans to re-apply for certification and hopes to reopen in the future after undergoing renovations.
