One of East Tennessee's top prosecutors is calling it quits after more than three decades on the job.

Thursday, family, friends and colleagues toasted 8th District Attorney General Paul Phillips at White Rock Baptist Church in Huntsville.

As D.A., he prosecuted cases in Campbell, Claiborne, Fentress, Scott and Union Counties.

U.S. District Judge Thomas Phillips honored his brother in a speech Thursday, calling him courageous.

"I'm sure many times Paul would've liked to have left difficult decisions to others, but that's not in his nature. He did what he thought was right, regardless of the consequences," he said.

D.A. Phillips was in office for 33 years.
