Storms added a damper to part of the day's activities at the Tennessee
Valley Fair Saturday as rain briefly drenched the site at Knoxville's
Chilhowee Park.
The crowd was smaller than the one that came out Friday to watch MC Hammer, partly due to the weather.
"It's just been like an annoying drizzle all day, but that's enough to
keep people away sometimes," said Sarah Thompson, spokesperson for the
Tennessee Valley Fair.
She said when severe storms approach the
fair site, organizers quickly monitor the situation with weather radio
and weather radar reports.
"If we feel that we're in the way of any imminent danger, we immediately stop everything and get folks inside," Thompson said.
The fair did not have to do that Saturday, but it did cancel its
popular Tractor Pull event thanks to rain. Visitors were notified of
the cancellation via Twitter, Facebook and the fair's website.
"We just communicate with folks back and forth," she said.
The rain was no big deal to some of the visitors 10News talked to.
Knoxville resident John Ford said he was happy just to take some time
with his family to enjoy the fair.
"Kind of rainy, but it's always alright," he said.
If you are interested in going to the fair, it lasts until Sunday, September 16.
